We had so much fun with the Suki Robe photoshoot for this re-launch! The photos are seriously stunning. I loved choosing the fabrics and sewing these two robes for our gorgeous model, Kate. I wanted to share the process and highlight the fabrics we used here in this post.
We are celebrating our completed size range, 0-30, with a STOREWIDE SALE! All patterns are on sale this week for 30% off! No coupon code required. Sale ends Friday, April 3rd!
I love how Suki looks with contrasting bands and waist ties. It really highlights the corner detail in the front band and the dramatic sleeves. For Kate’s dressing robe Suki (view A of the pattern) we chose a viscose poplin print with a lovely floral design. The bands are made from black rayon twill.
The inside tie of the Suki Robe is by far my favorite design feature in this pattern. It makes such a huge difference to have that extra closure! It prevents the robe from slowly slipping open and any potential wardrobe malfunctions.
We wanted to showcase an alternative look for Suki with this new photoshoot. I love wearing Suki outside as a lightweight cover-up in the Spring and Summer. It really dresses up any outfit and it feels incredible to wear. As a sewist, I just want to be draped in gorgeous fabric all the time!
For this look, we chose to use cotton double gauze in a penny color. I love the texture of this fabric and I have seen it used in many RTW collections recently. It has a floaty nature while still being really cozy and comforting. Perfect for that #secretpajamas life.
To make this even more everyday-appropriate we made a few changes. We eliminated the inseam pockets because we didn’t want them flopping around when the robe blew open as Kate strolled down the street. Patch pockets would be a great alternative! We also eliminated the inner tie since this is not intended for closed use. Finally, we attached the waist ties together and did not anchor them to the back of the robe. This allows Kate to wear the robe without the tie if desired.
We just love the way these looks came together, and Kate was such an awesome model to work with. We decided to hire a photographer for this shoot and she did an amazing job capturing the message of self-love that I wanted for this re-launch. Take care of yourselves and don’t stop sewing!
