YouTubes Favorite Yoga Instructor Cant Fall Asleep Without This Eye Mask

We spend a third of our lives asleepthat means our bedroom is the most lived-in space in our homes. Its the room where we start and end our days, and thats why the rituals that happen there are extra important. In The Wind Down, well be exploring the nighttime routines of people we admire and taking their advice to make the moments just before bed feel our best.

If youve ever scoured YouTube for a good workout video, youve probably seen her, and maybe you, like more than 6 million others, have been drawn to her calm (but not overly zen) nature, encouraging coaching, and cute dog cameos of her dog, Benji. Adriene Mishler, otherwise known as Yoga With Adriene, makes fitness approachable and accessible. And when shes off the mat, she has a few good pointers, too.

Sure, she might respond to Instagram comments from the bath, but shell always make time to read a poem or two and really unplug at night. Balance is a part of her job, after all.

Sign off: I try to be really disciplined about having a nighttime routine. I put my computer away in the farthest room from my bedroom, which is technically my office. When youre a business owner, the list really never ends, so I like to walk my dog as a transition from work to life.

Dinnertime: I love to cook my grandmas recipesits a nice way for me to use my hands and get off my phone. But a lot of her dishes are heavy Mexican food, so I make them just a little lighter. (If I do enjoy an extra-filling meal, though, I take psyllium husks, which are great for your stomach.) Benji is a true cattle dog; he will follow me from the sink to the counter to the stove, even though my kitchen is not very big. I always joke that hes my sous chef, because hes always on my tail. I like to wake up to a clean space, so even if my energy level is low, Ill power through and wash the dishes.

Soak it up: Ill usually take a bath and listen to a podcast or read a book, but during busy times, Im multitasking: responding to comments on social media and engaging with the community. It used to be that I just could not relax in the tub, but a friend of mine, whos a doctor of Chinese medicine and an acupuncturist, told me to get in the bath when I start filling it up. I stay in there longer nowabout 20 minutes. I use Epsom salts because you can buy them in bulk; Im trying to be as low waste as possible.

Skin saviors: I had to have been at a really, really, really good wedding to not go through my skin-care routine at night. Otherwise, no matter what time, no matter how long Im on a job, Ill make sure I use a super-gentle cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. I love a good mask, too, because it slows me down. A little self-care goes a long way. My new totally-love-it thing is gua sha because I have to feel my feet on the ground and only do thatWildling has tutorials on YouTube and Instagram. For Christmas last year, I gave all my closest girlfriends their own stones.

Easy zs: I was a little late to the game with CBD, but I do use +PlusCBD oil for sleep, as well as Lord Joness body lotion, gummies, and tincturesboth the lemon and peppermint ones. I also have Banyans sesame and coconut Sleep Oil; its Ayurvedic and really nutty. You put it on the soles of your feet and your temples, and I like to put it on my trapezius muscles, too.

Take a sip: Theres only one month out of the year I dont do hot ginger tea (or sometimes echinacea in the winter) and thats because its 110 degrees.

Perfect pjs: I love a full-on set, a good slip dress, or a robe. But I live in Texas and most of us sleep in the nude, so Ill usually just keep my pajamas on for reading. My favorites are from Apiece Apartthey make me feel like everything is right in the world.

Best bed: When I turned 30, I bought myself my first new bed frame in my adult life. Its made out of sustainable wood by a brand in L.A. called Urban Woods. Ive always liked white or off-white bedding, but with my dog, Ive switched to a light gray coverlet from Parachute that I pair with linen sheets. And I do have a nerdy cervical spine pillow, which has taught me to sleep more on my back and protects my neck and shoulders. Its the yoga teacher in me.

Mask on: I finally got Lunyas sleep mask. Ive tried them all, and this is my favorite one. My bedroom has the best light in the house, so I need it.

Required reading: Recently, Ive been reading a lot of poetry to take a break from the constant drive to become better and learn more. You can pick it up and have a beginning, middle, and an end with itIm the type of person who, even if my eyes are bleeding, will finish the chapter before I go to bed.

Lights-out around 11 p.m.ideally.
