Camping is such a great activity for families to do together. Not only is it a great way to bond and spend time together, but it’s also a great way to get some exercise and fresh air. However, one thing that can make camping even more fun is playing some campfire games together.
Campfire Games For Families To Play
Here are some fun campfire games for families to play:
I Spy: This classic game is a great way to pass the time around the campfire when you have a larger group. It works with both younger kids and a mixed group. One person starts by saying “I spy with my little eye something that is (color, shape, etc.)” and then everyone else takes turns trying to guess what it is. You don’t need a score pad. The winner of each round gets to SPY the next round and takes the hot seat.
20 Questions: Another great game that can be played around the campfire with all family members. One person thinks of an object, person, or place, and the others take turns asking up to 20 questions to determine what it is. Kids of all ages can participate because there are simple rules making this an easy game to understand.
Categories: This game is similar to 20 Questions, but instead of thinking of an object, person, or place, the player thinks of a category (e.g. animals, countries, TV shows, etc.) and the others have to guess what specific item within that category the player is thinking of. This one always promises a good laugh!
Chubby Bunny: If you have extra marshmallows lying around, put them to good use with this silly game. See how many marshmallows you can stuff in your mouth and still say “chubby bunny.”
Word Ladder: This campfire game is great for families with kids who are a bit older. One person starts by saying a word, and the second player then has to say a word that is linked to it in some way (e.g. if the first person says “dog”, the second person could say “pet”, and then the third person might say “cat”). The aim of the game is to see how long you can keep the chain going without repeating any words. The object is to try to get the entire group to participate. If you can get to the last player, the round was successful!
Two Truths and a Lie: This game is perfect for getting to know each other better after a long day. Everyone takes turns telling three things about themselves, two of which are true and one of which is a lie. The others then have to try and guess which one is the lie. It’s the perfect guessing game.
Would You Rather?: An excellent game for sparking some fun and interesting discussions around the campfire! Players take turns asking each other “would you rather” questions (e.g. would you rather go without TV or internet for a month?) and then everyone else has to weigh in on their answer.

Storytelling: A classic campfire activity that is always enjoyable. One person starts telling campfire stories, and then the next person picks up where they left off, and so on. The aim is to see how far you can get before the story goes completely off the rails! This is considered one of the classic campfire games of all time.
Scavenger Hunt: Looking for a fun way to explore your surroundings? Turn it into a game by organizing a scavenger hunt! See who can find the most items on the list.
Spooky Stories: What’s a night around the campfire without a few scary stories? Take turns telling ghost stories and see who can make the group scream the loudest. Just don’t let the story get too real! Guaranteed to have a good time.
Name that Movie: Everyone takes turns explaining their favorite flicks without actually saying the name of a movie, and the object is to be the first person to figure out what you are talking about. You can decide to stick to one genre or vary it up.
Simon Says: This is the perfect game for a group of people who don’t want to learn something new. One player is Simon and gives directions that the others must follow. If someone does something that isn’t Simon says, then they’re out!
So there you have it, some great campfire games for families to enjoy together. You don’t need much equipment to have a great night outdoors. You don’t even need a board game when you are outdoors. Just a campfire ring, a number of players that are interested in learning new campfire activities, and some good weather. So next time you’re planning a camping trip, be sure to add some of these games to your itinerary.
