There’s nothing more thrilling than planning a sneaky little trip away with your lover, especially after such a crazy couple of years cooped up in our homes.
We’ve compiled a list of some of WA's most romantic escapes spanning from the very top to the very bottom of our beautiful state to inspire your next romantic escape.
Whether it’s a big anniversary celebration or just a cheeky surprise for someone special, here are our picks for a loved-up stay in WA.
Hidden Valley Forest Retreats
Margaret River
You may have already seen this magical spot on your grid with its divine outdoor candle lit bathtub looking out to the treetops from your very own private boardwalk. Hidden Valley offers a range of retreats to suit each couple’s budget, with an emphasis on relaxation and pampering. Whether you’re looking for a personal chef to whip you up a stunning meal using the freshest local ingredients in your suite, or an in-lodge spa treatment, this place is ideal for a special occasion or just an adventure away together in the depths of the whimsical forest.
Kangaroo Valley Homestead
Perth Hills
The pool stay that sent you guys into a spin, there's no doubt this lush country oasis within the Perth Hills has risen to the top of our romantic getaway list, thanks largely to those two stunning outdoor stone baths. Surrounded by native bushland and beautifully maintained gardens, the rustic character-filled estate is perfect for your next romantic escape. If you get tired of lounging by the resort-style pool and bathing under the stars, you’ve also got a chesterfield movie lounge, billiard room and full bar to keep you entertained. Book here.
Stillwood Retreat
Denmark
Five minutes away from the Denmark township, you’ll find Stillwood Retreat. And retreat there we shall. This secluded architecturally designed Airbnb is tucked into the naturescape of the southwest, among towering Karri trees and next to your own private dam—where you can roll out a rug for a seriously serene private picnic on the deck before sinking into a hot outdoor bath as the sun sets. If you're keen to venture out at all (which trust me, is hard to do) there's plenty of things to do in Denmark. Our perfect day involves starting with the best breakfast gnocchi at Mrs Jones Cafe, going for a dip at Elephant Rocks (if the sun is shining) and then sampling some drinks over lunch—choose between wines at The Lake House, beers at Boston Brewing Co or spirits at The Dam.
Simala Retreat
Cowaramup
This luxurious retreat sits pretty on 40 acres of natural untouched bio-diverse forest surrounded by all of the wineries you could dream of for your sweeping getaway. With three gorgeous chalets to choose from as well as a wellbeing studio for yoga and meditation, you’ll be in awe of the views of the enchanting bushlands from your private studio. These architecturally-designed chalets even offer private verandahs with BBQs for you to sit and watch the world go by with the day’s wine haul.
Ampersand Estates
Pemberton
If you're keen on some cute and cosy foresty vibes, Pemberton is the place. The town is home to WA's tallest Karri trees and hardly ever gets above 30 degrees, even in summer—making it the perfect getaway for anyone big on hand-holding and endless cuddles. When heading to this little slice of paradise, you could definitely soak up the more casual lakeside cabin vibes at RAC Karri Valley Resort (it's also made our list), but for true luxury, Ampersand Estates takes the cake. It's an absolutely magical winery slash distillery blessed with picturesque rolling hillsides, the Donnely River running down one side and ancient forest all around. The beautiful two-bedroom Settler's Cottage is equivalent to a 5-star hotel, except better because it comes with a full chef's kitchen kitted out with fresh local produce. It's also just a short walk away from the cellar door, where you can do wine and spirit tastings or pick up a gourmet picnic to enjoy anywhere on the grounds.
Margaret River Glamping
Margaret River Glamping
If only year 10 camp was in the same realm as Margaret River Glamping. This luxe, cosy and secluded glamping experience is the perfect way to unwind away from the bustle of the ‘burbs. Complete with a bell tent, campfire and bush bath to soak in with a book and a cuppa. The tent itself has a queen bed, electric blankets and an electric fireplace for those who need the extra help. After you’ve had an (understandably) long bath, cook dinner and have a wine in the outdoor kitchen and forget all about whatever work is waiting for you on Monday.
RAC Karri Valley Resort
Pemberton
There’s nothing like a lakeside view to wake up to, especially when the early morning mists are still rolling in. RAC Karri Valley Resort sits on the edge of Lake Beedelup, which is filled with trout if you happen to find fishing a bonding experience. From the front door of your room or cabin you’ll be able to stroll through Karri trees and head nearby to relax in the peaceful and charming Pemberton. The resort has recently undergone a few changes, including a thoughtful refurb of the onsite Lakeside Restaurant. It’s easy to spend a significant chunk of the day on the comfy sofas here gazing at the view. Simply perch yourself and take your pick from breakfast through to lunch, cocktail hour or dinner. If it gets nippy, you’ve got the fireplace, a warming glass of wine and each other to keep you warm before bed beckons.
Hidden Cabins
Ferguson Valley and Peel Region
Sometimes we need to completely disconnect from the world around us to reconnect with our significant other, and there’s no doubt that the masterminds behind Hidden Cabins have created two extraordinary eco-conscious spaces to unwind and recharge together. Both within two hours of Perth, ‘Florence’ and ‘Henry’ both ooze calm and tranquillity right in the heart of nature. These little sanctuaries include massive floor to ceiling windows and wood fires to snuggle up and admire the secluded beauty along with full amenities, board games, books and other thoughtful little touches so that you never need to leave the arms of your lover.
Heyscape
All over WA
While we're talking tiny escapes, we can't go past the luxe little beauties Heyscape has dotted around WA. You'll find these cosy off-grid cabins set up in private fields on farms and wineries, with nothing but bushland as far as the eye can see. If you don't feel like going too far, check out the luxe 'Lauren' tiny cabin in Chittering, less than an hour from Perth... not that you'd believe that when you're staring up at the stars from the outdoor bath for two, wine in hand. It also gives you a chance to pull into the famous Bindoon Bakehouse on your way home for one of their life-changing vanilla slices.
Rivers End Retreat
Kalgan
This mighty little shipping container home is proof that good things do indeed come in small (and incredibly luxe) packages. Completely self-contained and set on a working farm, this spot is perfect for couples looking to go off-grid and get back to nature for a bit. Just remember to BYO marshmallows for the deckside firepit (conditions permitting).
Petit Eco Cabin
Yallingup
Perfect for a romantic getaway, this quaint timber cabin is the ideal place to unwind with a glass of vino and the one you love most. Nestled within an organic vineyard called Windows Estate (quite convenient, we think), this cabin’s rustic bathtub sits under eucalyptus trees and faces a serene lake. You’ll find it hard to resist the urge to ‘gram this tub—especially when you’re lying back with a glass of red in hand.
Bathhouse Glamping Yallingup
Yallingup
Set beneath beautiful pine trees in Yallingup, this adults-only retreat is the definition of luxury and romance. The 7-acre property is kitted out with a pool, day beds, onsite day spa, private yoga instructor, outdoor rain shower and a beautiful pair of outdoor baths for you and your significant other to soak in. Start your day with a special cooked breakfast served up on the treetop balcony and end it with a bottle of champagne on ice by the bath before retiring to your comfy tent bed.
Treetops
Denmark
Treetops is a romantic two-storey A-frame chalet just 4 kilometres from the town of Denmark. Tucked between the towering Karri trees, this house set in the trees looks like it belongs in a children’s book. After a day exploring the epic sights of Denmark, get settled in for a vino and a board game in front of the potbelly fire. Heaven.
The Bootmakers House
Nannup
This quaint little Airbnb nestled in our South West has quickly become a favourite amongst locals and travellers alike, so you’ll need to book in advance to be lucky enough to check-in. The owners have meticulously restored an old workers cottage carefully curating each detail so that each corner of the space is its own little postcard. Cosy up by the fire, cook a hearty meal together in the beautiful jarrah kitchen or take a romantic wander down to the lake nearby or through the picturesque Nannup main street filled with antique stores and homemade goodies.
La Forêt Enchantée
Margaret River
This is one of the best-kept secrets in the South West for romantics. La Forêt Enchantée is a dreamy destination filled with magic on the banks of the Margaret River. It’s a breathtaking moment when you enter through the wrought iron gates and through the property’s very own Arc De Triomphe. Set within 10 acres of native bush and renaissance inspired gardens; you’ll feel like you have been whisked off in a fairy-tale among the lush greenery, bubbling fountains, and sweeping terraces. The icing on the cake is the two secluded cabins to choose from, resplendent with luxurious furnishings and marble bathrooms. Want even more romance? Why not add on a private chef for the evening, red roses and bubbles on arrival or a sensual spa treatment for two? Or you could fly in by helicopter—they have a love heart shaped helipad ready for you.
Eco Beach Retreat
Broome
A 2.5 hour flight from Perth will take you to the steamy red sands of Broome, and will set you in the midst of the mangroves at the newly relocated Eco Beach Retreat. This secluded retreat 130kms out of town offers 25 eco villas interlinked by over a kilometer of boardwalks all along the striking coastline offering unbeatable views of the Indian Ocean. The friendly team are experts in organising unique and incredibly memorable experiences for their guests such as their sunset cruises, helicopter rides over the Horizontal Falls and various daily activities like yoga, turtle tracking and guided bushwalking hikes. You’ll quickly fall in love with the balmy soothing heat and the stunning views from the pool and expansive shores.[TAG14]
Sal Salis Ningaloo Reef
Exmouth
“Where the outback meets the reef” is the perfect tagline for this unique romantic retreat. As a member of Luxury Lodges of Australia, you’ll be sure to find no stone unturned when it comes to creature comforts at Sal Salis. Gaze out and watch the sunset turn to a sky blazing with stars from your own private beach safari tent. With just 15 tents on-site, you’ll feel like it’s only you both here to explore the magic of Exmouth. Dive from the shores of the camp into the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Reef where you’ll find more than 500 species of colourful fish, and plenty of rays and turtles swimming among the rainbow of coral.
Blackwood River Houseboats
Augusta
Here is something a bit different to surprise your better half with. Whisk them off with instructions to get ready to drift away. Blackwood River Houseboats have a fleet of four different boats ranging in size, so you can even double date with another couple if you fancy sharing your precious time off together. Laze on the deck as you cruise along over 25km of National Park protected by a river reserve. You’ll have plenty of time to gaze into each other's eyes, whether from a kayak on the water or in-between spotting water birds, dolphins and wildflowers from the deck. You’ll be cruising in a biodiversity hotspot, so this is the ideal pick for romantics that also happen to share a love for mother nature.
Esperance Chalet Village
Esperance
Located just a five minute stroll from the crystal clear waters of Esperance Bay, the charming and romantic Chalet village is made up of a series of stand alone a-frame chalets, all surrounded by large trees and lush native gardens. Each chalet is beautifully styled to suit your surroundings and set the mood—think crisp white linen bedding, timber cladding, a good splash of white paint, and coastal decor.
Woodlands Retreat
Porongurup
Surrounded by the Porongurup National Park, this spacey, light-filled timber abode ticks all the boxes. The massive spa sits in a window-lit room that faces the picturesque Porongurup Ranges. This spa room then spills out onto the balcony, where you can dry off after the spa and relax on the deck chairs. If you and your partner like activities, you’ll be able to explore the Porongurup region, which is home to plenty of walking trails such as the Castle Rock Granite Skywalk and many wineries that meander right to Mount Barker.
