Future Games Show Reveals More Of The Future Of Gaming

The GamesRadar Future Games Show hosted by Nolan North, the voice of Uncharted‘s Nathan Drake, and Emily Rose just concluded, bringing with it a plethora of announcements for upcoming games. This conference advertised a focus on next-gen games coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, but a lot of currently- and soon-to-be-released games also got some love. Here are some of the highlights from the show.

Future Games Show 2020

Join the Future Games Show for over an hour of exclusive multiformat game reveals, trailers and updates as we explore the future of gaming.

The show kicked off with the world premiere of Quantam Error, a first-person horror shooter for the PlayStation 5. The game features a number of grotesque enemies that you’ll need to deal with as you venture further into a mysterious facility, and is coming out in 2020.

The next game introduced was Red Thread’s stylized sci-fi road trip Dustborn. The game looks to tackle a ton of themes through a dystopic action-adventure, and is coming to PC and next-gen consoles in 2021.

Next was Ghostrunner, a first-person action-platformer with a demo available on Steam. It’s a slick cyberpunk experience, and the game will release in 2020 on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One.

Frogwares‘ latest Sherlock Holmes game came next, Sherlock Holmes Chapter 1. The game focuses on a younger Sherlock, and adds an open world to let players find the clues themselves. It will be released to PC and consoles in 2021.

After that was Morbid: The Seven Acolytes, a pixellated action game somewhat reminiscent of Dark Souls. It features a lady protagonist who has access to both guns and various melee weapons, and she has a whole bunch of grotesque monsters to deal with. You’ll be able to manage your sanity and equipment when the game comes out later this year on PC and console.

Finally, capping off the conference’s “arcade” segment, was Neon Abyss, a side-scrolling shoot-’em-up reminiscent of Exit the Gungeon. It releases July 14th, 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch.

Next came a look at a new level in the early access skating sim Skater XL. The Easy Day High School level is based on the Californian school environment, a standard key location in skateboarding games. The update will drop in July 2020.

Next up is a Star Trek lookalike called Space Crew. It looks to be an occasionally chaotic spaceship manager. The game is releasing on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam in September 2020.

Following that was a first-person horror adventure game named Maid of Sker. Featuring a mixture of European-flavoured horror, you have to sneak quietly through the cursed Sker Hotel. It’s coming to Windows, Switch, Xbox One, and PS4 in June 2020.

Next came the reveal of the multiplayer board game The Captain is Dead. It’s a charming little sci-fi game that is available to be wishlisted on Steam now.

After that was an exclusive reveal for Last Oasis‘ new map, the volcanic biome. Last Oasis is a survival MMO where you ride ships through a blasted-out landscape. I must say, watching the vehicles skitter around is quite amusing. The game is available now on Steam.

The next stop in the Future Games Show was a series of short interviews regarding next-gen. A bunch of devs from around the industry were questioned on a variety of topics, including design, storytelling, graphics, audio, and so on. There’s too much here to repeat, but it’s very insightful coming from people who are trying to realize the visions of what they’re talking about, so I encourage you to listen yourself.
