Join our special Facebook groups.
While we work to publish posts on FrugalLivingNW.com, we simply don’t have the time to get everything we find up on the blog (writing posts takes a lot of time), but we do have time to post in our Facebook groups as it takes about one-tenth the amount of time. If you want the very best deals in real-time, you need to be in one or both of these groups.
We run three Facebook groups:
This group is active November and December and is run primarily by me (with some solid input from my blog manager Melody). We post deals on gift-y stuff, like toys, electronics, etc. Anything you might give as a Christmas gift. Join this FB group HERE.
The BEST Online Deals from FLNW
This group runs year-round and is run by my wonderful assistant, Megan. She finds deals on everything — household, toys, electronics, outdoors, grocery. Join this FB group HERE.
This group is mostly active during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale during the summer, but we also get it up and popping during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale at Nordys. We typically see lower prices than even the Anniversary Sale and there are TONS of items marked down! Great group for sizing and fit info, plus recommendations for items you may not have found yourself.
You can join all three groups if you’d like. There may be some overlap, but since you have three different people looking for deals, there will be enough variety to make things fun and interesting.
What deals to expect
And while we’re talking holiday shopping, here is a list of the different deals I expect to see. This is based on my experience of watching deals over the last ten or so years. I’d love to hear what you remember seeing in the past as well!
Now remember that we’re still in a pandemic and I actually have no idea how things will actually play out with the current supply chain issues, but this has been the situation historically.
November 1-20
Anything goes. DVDs, electronic gadgets, toys. Online retailers are working hard to get their hands on your Christmas budget before the brick-and-mortar stores start their big sales. We’re mostly seeing price drops on items that have been popular in the past, like hot toys from 2018, 2019, and 2020.
I honestly think you can get most of your shopping finished during November if you want, but you need to AT VERY LEAST sign up to get our Christmas Deals emails or (better yet) join our dedicated Christmas Deals Facebook Group.
November 21-28 (or Black Friday Week)
Kohl’s Black Friday Sales, Amazon Kindle and Kindle Fire and other Amazon devices (like the Echo and Fire Stick), Amazon toy sales.
Black Friday (Friday, November 26)
Small kitchen electronics, computers, cameras, bed & bath (towels, sheets, comforters), computers (though I doubt there will be anything amazing at the lower price points), cameras, clothing, boots, pajamas, board games, jewelry (both expensive and inexpensive), Christmas decorations, beauty products.
Stores are scaling their in-store Black Friday promotions way back this year, so expect to see all the usual doorbusters available online and not in the actual stores. These promotions will continue to have extremely limited stock, so you’ll have to be ready to pounce the moment an online sale starts.
Nordstrom also runs an AMAZING Black Friday sale, with extra discounts on top of sale prices.
Small Business Saturday (Saturday, November 27)
The Saturday after Thanksgiving celebrates small and local businesses and encourages shoppers to support these smaller retailers. Great time to think about shopping local and supporting your community!
Cyber Monday (Monday, November 29)
This is getting a bit overshadowed as Black Friday has become what seems to be a full week instead of just one single day of shopping. However, if a smaller business or retailer you love has something you are wanting to buy, check their site to see if they are offering extra discounts. Most stores offer something!
Also, Cyber Monday is a good time to get a big discount on digital items, like meal plan memberships, online courses, and digital subscriptions as well subscription boxes.
Nordstrom also does another fantastic sale on Cyber Monday, so worth checking for your favorite brands. Join our Nordstrom Deals Facebook group if you are interested in up to the minute deals.
November 30 – December 20
Toys, toys, toys. And brick-and-mortar stores will amp their sales during the three weeks before Christmas. Look for one-day flash sales at Fred Meyer if you’re in the Northwest and amazing Circle discounts at Target. We have also seen some really excellent book and board game sales during these weeks from Amazon and Target!
December 21 – December 24
You’re on your own. I’ve done all I can do to help you save money. You’re now at the mercy of the store’s available stock. Give a gift card and call it good.
